Cleveland Indians: Tribe Survives Wild 9th

8-23-11     vs. Seattle     W, 7-5     63-62

During the 4th inning of the Indians' twinbill opener against the Mariners, tremors from an earthquake in Virginia shook the ground beneath Progressive Field.
The quake, which rocked the east coast, was simply the beginning of a wild afternoon in Cleveland.
Entering the 9th, the Tribe enjoyed a 4-3 lead, but Seattle quickly changed that.  Attempting to toss his 2nd complete game of the season, Justin Masterson allowed a pair of 1-out singles, prompting Manny Acta to summon his closer.  However, Chris Perez yielded a go-ahead, 2-run double to the 1st batter he faced, Trayvon Robinson.  Perez's blown save had the Indians drifting dangerously close to a 5th consecutive loss.
In the last of the 9th, the M's turned to their stopper, Brandon League.  League, though, never recorded an out.  Ezequiel Carrera doubled, and Asdrubal Cabrera reached 1st base safely via a fielder's choice because Dustin Ackley, the Mariner's 2nd baseman, tried to gun down the speedy Carrera at 3rd base.  That foolish mistake provided Shin-Soo Choo with a chance to be the hero.  And Choo, who witnessed the birth of his 3rd child earlier in the day, launched the 1st pitch he saw over the left field fence for a walk-off, 3-run homer.
The Indians greet Choo at home plate following his dramatic blast
