Cleveland Indians: Mariners Drub Tomlin, Tribe

8-24-11     vs. Seattle     L, 9-2     63-64

Following Wednesday's dismal showing against the Mariners, it is safe to say that the Indians are dead and buried.
The 9-2 loss dropped the Tribe into a 2nd place tie with the Chicago White Sox, 6.5 games behind the surging Detroit Tigers.
Shelley Duncan's RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd gave Josh Tomlin a 1-0 cushion, but Tomlin would have his worst start of the season.  The young right-hander allowed 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings, marking the 1st time in his career that he failed to pitch at least 5 frames.  That impressive streak spanned 37 outings and surpassed a major league record.
The Mariners scored 7 unanswered runs after Jack Hannahan drilled a game-tying RBI single in the 4th.  Wily Mo Pena collected 3 base-hits, including a 2-run homer, and 4 RBIs as the M's battered Tomlin and the Tribe bullpen.
Felix Hernandez worked 6 innings, surrendering 2 tallies, and the reigning American League Cy Young award winner recorded 10 of Seattle's 16 strikeouts.
For the 1st time since April 3rd, the Indians are below .500
