Cleveland Indians: Bats Back Gomez

8-31-11     vs. Oakland     W, 6-2     67-65

The Tribe offense broke out of its slump and lifted Jeanmar Gomez to a victory against the Athletics on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.
Gomez, who is replacing the injured Josh Tomlin, produced an outing that Tomlin would have been proud to call his own.  Gomez pounded the strike zone, pitched 6 solid innings, and allowed only 1 run.
The Indians' young right-hander worked without support until the bottom of the 3rd, when Kosuke Fukudome drilled a 2-run double to the wall in right-center field.
Then, in the 6th, the Tribe unleashed the heavy lumber and buried the A's.  Carlos Santana and Jack Hannahan both hit 2-run homers to right as the Indians increased their lead to 6-1.  The outburst sent Trevor Cahill, the eventual losing hurler, to the showers.
Following Gomez's tremendous start, the bullpen sealed the Tribe's 4th victory in the last 5 games.
