Cleveland Indians: Tomlin Fades, Tribe Loses

8-19-11     at Detroit     L, 4-1     62-59

Through 5 innings on Friday night at Comerica Park, Josh Tomlin, to use a popular baseball term, was dealing.
The crafty right-hander was twirling a 2-hit shutout as he and the Tigers' Max Scherzer were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel.
But, in the bottom of the 6th, Tomlin began making critical mistakes.  After Ryan Raburn laced a single to right, Austin Jackson belted a sinker that Tomlin grooved over the left field wall.
Scherzer's wild pitch in the 7th pulled the Indians to within a run, but Tomlin completely fell apart in the home half of the frame.  Tomlin did record 2 quick outs, but he then surrendered back-to-back home runs to Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta.  Both Avila and Peralta crushed the 1st pitch Tomin threw.
The Tribe's lifeless offense was unable to overcome Tomlin's late-inning woes.  Tomlin suffered the loss, and the Indians slipped 2.5 games behind Detroit.
Tomlin's collapse helped the Tigers increase their division lead
