Cleveland Indians: Tribe Triumphs, Cabrera Injured

9-2-11     at Kansas City     W, 5-4     69-66

The Indians emerged victorious from Friday's tilt at Kauffman Stadium, but the win was costly.
Asdrubal Cabrera, the Tribe's All-Star shortstop, suffered a knee contusion when he fouled a Bruce Chen delivery off his left knee in the top of the 3rd.  Cabrera did remain in the game, and he belted a 2-run homer to left field a few pitches later.  However, Cabrera exited the contest in the bottom of the 4th after attempting to play defense.  It is unknown if Cabrera will be placed on the disabled list, but it is obvious that the Indians cannot afford to be without their most valuable player for an extended period of time.
Cabrera's home run highlighted the Tribe's offensive outburst against Chen.  Chen allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, and the native of Panama eventually became the losing pitcher.
The Indians drew 1st blood as they tallied twice in the 1st.  Carlos Santana drilled a 2-out, RBI double to the right-center gap, and Jim Thome added a RBI single to left.
Jason Donald, who replaced Cabrera at short, belted a solo bomb in the 4th, providing Justin Masterson with a 5-0 lead.  Masterson, unaccustomed to receiving support, yielded 4 runs in 7 frames, but he did earn the victory.
Vinnie Pestano worked the 8th and Chris Perez the 9th to seal the W.
