Cleveland Indians: Gonzalez Continues Mastery of Tribe

9-1-11     vs. Oakland     L, 7-0     68-66

     A sweep was was within their grasp, but the Indians simply could not solve Gio Gonzalez.
     Gonzalez, the Athletics' All-Star hurler, stifled the Tribe bats for 7 innings while striking out 7 to earn the win.  The scoreless start extended Gonzalez's streak of shutout frames against the Indians to 27 2/3.  Gonzalez also owns a career record of 5-0 when facing the Tribe.
     Fausto Carmona was not nearly as good as his mound opponent on Thursday afternoon.  Carmona allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, in 6 ineffective innings.  The loss drops Carmona's season mark to 6-13, even though he has pitched well since an early-July trip to the disabled list.
     Cliff Pennington (4 hits, 3 RBI) and Coco Crisp (3 hits, 2 RBI) keyed the Oakland attack.
     A pair of Cleveland relievers, Nick Hagadone and Corey Kluber, made their major league debuts.  The 2 combined to surrender 4 hits and 3 runs in 3 frames of work.
